If you like goals, Kopar Memorial Arena was the place to be as the Prince George Spruce Kings finished off a weekend sweep of the Nanaimo Clippers with a 9-4 on Sunday afternoon.

For the second straight game, the Clippers got on the board as they scored on the power play at 5:52 when Samuel Boisvert’s pass attempt went off Ozbej Rep and past Ryder Green.

The Spruce Kings responded just 52 seconds later as Ben Vreugdenhil scored his third of the season on the man advantage to tie the game at one.

Fraser Leonard scored his first in the BCHL with a rush from his own zone and a picture perfect shot over the pad of Dryden Riley to make it 2-1 after one.

The Spruce Kings scored three times in the middle frame as Spencer Masters scored on the power play at 8:31, tucking the puck home on a nice play in front.

Dominic Szczygiel scored his first junior goal at 11:58 of the frame as he finished off a three-way passing play with  Matic Perčič and Spencer Masters drawing the assists.

The power play continued to have success on the weekend as Kazumo Sasaki scored his 7th of the season at 19:37 from Rep and Vreugdenhil.

The teams went back and forth in the third period as Jack Rimmer scored on the power play for the Clippers, before Mathis Laplante responded to make it 6-2.

After Charles Béland deflected the 6-3 goal past Green, Tai Ushio scored his 7th of the year beating the Clippers defender before putting the puck by Riley.

Hayden Fechner made it 7-4 at 7:53 once again on the power play, but the Spruce Kings got the last two on the night as Ryan Wachtel buried a one-timer off a faceoff and Ushio’s second of the night came on the power play at 16:33.

Overall on the weekend, the Spruce Kings power play went 7 for 12, pushing their league leading efficiency to 40.5%. They have outscored their opponents 31-12 in the last four home games, all wins.

The Spruce Kings head to the lower mainland for matchups with the Chilliwack Chiefs and Surrey Eagles next weekend.
