Ken Dryden, Dead at 78
Where to begin with Ken Dryden? He was a Hall of Fame goaltender who won six Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadiens and helped backstop Canada's generation-defining victory at the 1972 Summit Series.
He retired from the game in his early-30s, becoming a lawyer, author, politician and NHL executive. He was president of the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1997 through 2004.
He entered politics, became an MP and was named minister of social development in Prime Minister Paul Martin's cabinet.
In recent years, Ken Dryden wrote The Class: A Memoir of a Place, a Time, and Us which was about his class at Etobicoke Collegiate Institute. It was full of Etobicoke content, and I reaced out to the publishers about him coming on Toronto Mike'd to talk about the book and Etobicoke. Sadly, we couldn't make that happen.
