Hulk Hogan, born Terry Bollea, seemed larger than life to this 80s kid following WWF wrestling. In 1984, he defeated the Iron Sheik to win the WWF heavyweight championship and the rest is history.
He had a memorable role in Rocky III, I watched his cartoon show Rock and Wrestling, he body slammed Andre the Giant at Wrestlemania III, and I saw him defeat The Ultimate Warrior at The Big Event at Exhibition Stadium in 1985 with 61,470 other people and he was far and away the biggest pro wrestling icon of my youth.
He was larger than life, but a complex figure who said racist things and became a Trumper. I'll discuss his life and legacy with Stu Stone tomorrow on Toronto Mike'd. You can watch us live at 1pm at live.torontomike.com.
