Pape Signs with Smokies

Trail, British Columbia (July 3, 2025) – The Trail Smoke Eaters have signed Matthias Pape for the upcoming 2025-26 season and he is will join the team for Smoke Eaters Main Camp scheduled for August 30 to September 1.

Matthias is a 6’0″, 2006-born right shot defenceman from Krefeld, Germany. Last season he played for the U20 Kölner Junghaie in the DNL U20 where he posted 10 goals and added 22 assists for 33 points in 50 games. Matthias has represented his country multiple times playing for the German National Team at the U18, U17 and U16 divisions that participates in the World Hockey Championships.

We like the way he makes plays under pressure, especially on his defensive zone exits and he is a strong shooting threat in the offensive zone.
