Not Missing The New Twitter
It was March 13 when I posted my last tweet on the app formerly known as Twitter. That's about 2.5 months ago. For a while I checked my mentions and DMs, but I've even stopped doing that. I honestly don't miss it at all.
What I used to Tweet I now post on Bluesky. I realize Bluesky doesn't have the audience class Twitter had, but it's the best show in town and I enjoy it. To reach more people when promoting a new episode of Toronto Mike'd, I also post on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
I withdrew a little from Twitter when Elon Musk assumed ownership, but I really withdrew when Donald Trump was elected last November. That made it rather easy to walk away entirely in mid-March.
What I really miss is peak-blog. Let's say around 2004 when your favourite musician or band had a blog, you were subscribed to many an RSS feed, and the blog was the social media channel of choice.
In a sense, I never stopped blogging, but most of abandoned the blog in favour of social media. I stubbornly remain to fly the flag.
