BCHL Playoffs Game Day | TRA at CRA
The Smokies and Bucks take their BCHL playoff acts tonight to Cranbrook.
The first round series is tied at a game each after two hard fought weekend battles at Cominco Arena.
The Bucks came back from a 2-0 third period deficit to win Friday’s opener 3-2 in overtime, and the Smokies responded with a three goal third period outburst to post a 5-1 victory in the Saturday night showdown.
Trail triumphed in all three regular season games in Cranbrook, riding three tantalizing performances from goalie Teagan Kendrick, who turned in puck stopping performances of 37, 40 and 44 saves.
The 20-year-old heads into tonight’s tilt with a series save percentage of .922 and goals against average of 1.87.
Cranbrook’s Jaden Cholette has a 2.84 goals against average and save percentage of .895 and Bucks winger Rasmus Svartstrom has extended his goal and point producing prowess into the post season.
The tall Finn, who won the league’s regular season goal scoring title with 46, has scored in both playoff games and – including the regular season – has nine goals in eight games versus Trail. His consecutive game point streak is now at 19.
Patrick Murphy of the Bucks leads the season series with three points on a goal and two helpers.
Brayden Sinclair, Cade De St. Hubert and Jack Kennedy of the Smokies have one goal and one assist each.
Both playoff games, like all six regular season contests, were intense and physical.
Trail Captain Ridge Dawson threw two huge hits on Saturday while making body contact eight times, leading all players during game two.
Opening face offs tonight and tomorrow night in the East Kootenay are set for 6 p.m. (PDT) and can be listened to to Mixlr or watched on FloHockey. Game five is back in Trail on Friday and good seats are still available for that game at Tickets.TrailSmokeEaters.com.
