Shenendehowa boys hockey prepares for Frozen Four
CLIFTON PARK, NY (NEWS10) -- Two years ago, the Shenendehowa boys hockey team lost to Suffern in the State Semifinals. On Saturday, the Plainsmen will be out for revenge, once again taking on Suffern in the Frozen Four.
Shenendehowa beat top-seeded Saratoga 4-3 in the Section 2 Division 1 Championship. They then beat Canton in the first round of states to advance to the semifinals.
The Plainsmen are out to prove they're one of the best teams in New York. "We've played some of the top teams in the state," said head coach Juan De la Rocha. "In some games, we played very well and other games we didn't play well at all. We knew that we had a better version of ourselves to show and that's just been part of the growing process for us. Now I think we've pieced together the group that we want to be, and I think there's a lot of confidence going into this weekend. No matter who we face, we know that if we give it our best, we've got a good shot at making it to Sunday."
"It's all anybody can really think about," said senior forward Julien Overton. "It's all the team's talking about. Hearing you're playing a team like Suffern, you have a lot of intensity going into that game and you really want to perform well and show the state what we can do."
The puck drops at 5:30 PM from the LECOM Harborcenter in Buffalo. Queensbury will represent Section 2 in the Division 2 Semifinal on Saturday at 11:30 AM against Ogdensburg Free Academy.
