Game Day | BRK at TRA
It’s a Friday night Cominco Arena clash between two of the top teams in the BCHL.
The Trail Smoke Eaters tangle with Brooks, needing a win to keep their hopes for a move up the Interior Conference standings alive.
The Smokies are third, six points back of the Bandits with eight regular season games remaining for both.
It’s also a showdown between two of the league’s top offensive attacks.
The Smokies have scored 196 goals in 46 games, just five fewer than Brooks.
Trail’s offensive pace is set by the ‘California Connection’.
Centreman Jason Stefanek has a team-leading 26 goals and 53 points, while line mate Christian Kim has 50 points including 19 goals. Zach Coutu completes that potent trio with 20 points in 16 games since joining Trail from the AJHL.
Nathan Free has pumped in 30 goals and 61 points for the Bandits, while Ethan Beyer has emerged as one of the league’s top scoring defenseman with 10 goals and 43 points.
Smokies rearguard Lucas Lemieux remains among the top goal scoring defensemen in the BCHL with 12 and his 38 points includes 12 power play assists.
The Bandits have won both head-to-head meetings.
Trail battled back from a pair of two-goal deficits in Brooks on September 29 before suffering a 5-4 setback in overtime. The Smokies were playing their third road game in less than three nights.
One month later, the Bandits recorded a 5-2 win in Trail, sealing the deal with an empty net goal.
Ryan Parker will be starting between the pipes.
The 19-year-old Victoria area netminder made some big saves down the stretch to record his 9th win of the season in Trail’s 3-2 victory last Friday night over Nanaimo, which ended a four-game losing streak.
He filled in for Teagan Kendrick, who had dental surgery the previous day and remains unavailable this weekend after an emergency procedure earlier this week.
Parker has been outstanding in his last eight starts with 2.63 goals against average and a save percentage of .931.
Opening face off is set for 7 p.m. and great seats are still available at Tickets.TrailSmokeEaters.com.
