Will Moore Scores Pair in Spruce Kings Comeback
The Prince George Spruce Kings came back from down a pair of goals and Will Moore’s second of the night gave them a 3-2 overtime victory over the Surrey Eagles on Friday night in Surrey.
After a scoreless first period, Yuchan Kong would get the Eagles on the board on the power play, beating Charles Gravel with a wrister off assists from Jackson Anderson and Ryan Evenhuis.
The Eagles widened their lead to 2-0 at 8:50 of the middle frame as Cameron Caron beat Gravel over the right shoulder from Ryan Mottau.
Surrey thought they had scored again minutes later but the net was off before the shot, so was disallowed by the official.
The Spruce Kings got on the board at 18:14 of the period, as Kazumo Sasaki scored his 17th of the year on the power play, firing a one timer past Maddox Osaka from Owen Goodbrand and Linden Makow.
In the third, the Spruce Kings would get another power-play goal, this time from Will Moore. After Brendan Gillmore retrieved a loose puck in his own end and the man advantage units changed, Gillmore would find Moore through the middle of the ice, and he snapped one past Osaka with a quick wrister from above the circles.
In overtime, Gravel made a couple of key saves, and after a blocked shot, Moore would get the puck to Nicolas Papineau and then would jump in the rush. Papineau found Moore over the blue line, and as Moore spun off a defender, fired a backhander past Osaka to give the Spruce Kings the win.
Prince George was momentarily within two points of the final playoff spot, until the Langley Rivermen forced overtime in a wild game against the Cowichan Valley Capitals. It was the Capitals who scored the overtime winner and the Spruce Kings end the night just three back of the Rivermen for the final playoff spot.
The Spruce Kings will play their game in hand on Sunday at 4:00 PM against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks from Rogers Rink in their only matchup in the Interior West this season.
