Defenseman Ian Engel Set to Play in 150th Career NAHL Game This Saturday
The Bobcats are celebrating another player hitting the 150 game mark, this weekend it’s Captain Ian Engel. Engel has been a mainstay on the back end for the Bobcats this season and has grown tremendously throughout his time with Bismarck. Engel is extremely happy to hit this milestone with the Bobcats organization and the locker room that the Bobcats have been able to build this year. “It’s something super cool, not a lot of people make it to 150 games, so it’s something pretty sweet that I get to do and I wouldn’t want to do it with any other group of guys, than these ones here this year,” Engel said.
Engel has not only grown defensively, but also offensively each year with the Bobcats. He has already broken his career high in points for a season, as he currently has 3 goals and 23 assists for a total of 26 points, with 14 games still remaining in the regular season. In his career, Engel has found the back of the net 7 times and tallied on 45 assists for a total of 52 points. Engel mentioned that the locker room this year, but also the previous ones have helped him achieve success both on and off the ice. “It’s been really good. It’s been tons of fun this year, and all three of my years here. Coaches have done a really good job at getting good players, but also just great guys in that locker room, so it makes it super easy every day to lead them and have fun every single day,” Engel mentioned.
The Bobcats have had a flurry of players hit the 150 game mark as of late. It began a couple of weekends ago with Evan Hunter, then last weekend Kyle Doll achieved that same mark, now Ian Engel has that opportunity this Saturday for the Bobcats. It’s a trio that has been together for a very long time and has been able to not only grow as hockey players, but also as human beings.
