Spruce Kings Drop Third Straight
The Prince George Spruce Kings dropped their third straight game with a 4-1 loss to the Coquitlam Express on Thursday at the Poirier Sports & Leisure Complex.
The Express got on the board late in the first period on a 2 on 1 with Connor Seeley putting one past Charles Gravel with 3:37 to go in the frame. The goal came against the flow of play with the Spruce Kings leading 7-3 in shots on goal after 20 minutes.
After a scoreless second period, James Shannon was credited with the second Express goal when the puck came off the corner boards and as Gravel went to play it, the puck went off of Shannon and in. After video review, the goal stood to make it 2-0.
The Spruce Kings would score with 5:30 remaining in the third period, as Nicolas Papineau’s ninth of the season got them within a goal. Brock Cummings created a turnover behind the net and found Papineau in the slot.
Just under two minutes later, Thomas Zocco’s centering pass was redirected by Carson McGinley over the glove of Gravel to make it 3-1.
Cam Russo would score into an empty net at 18:21.
The Spruce Kings head to Surrey on Friday night for a matchup with the Eagles. Puck drops at 7 PM and is available on 99.3 REWIND Radio.
Prince George will be looking to at least keep pace with the Langley Rivermen, who match up with the Cowichan Valley Capitals.
