Chiefs Sweep Spruce Kings on Weekend
The Spruce Kings dropped back to back home games this weekend, with a 3-1 loss on Saturday night to the Chilliwack Chiefs.
Carter Hesselgrave got the Spruce Kings on the board at 2:24 with a shorthanded goal as he put pressure on goaltender Quentin Miller behind the net, and was able to tuck it home as the puck came free out front.
The Chiefs responded late in the opening period, with a forward back defensively for the Spruce Kings as Mateo Mrsic snapped one past Ben Polhill to tie the game at one.
It was even throughout the middle frame until late in the second period as Lucas Sorace scored from the high slot. The goal came moments after the Spruce Kings cleared the puck from the goal line on a wild scramble.
Chilliwack made it a 3-1 game at 11:43 of the third period as Olivier Beaulieu’s shot deflected off a Spruce Kings stick past Polhill.
Prince George went 0/5 on the power play in the game, while the Chiefs went 0/4.
The Spruce Kings head on the road next week and will take on the Coquitlam Express on Thursday night, the Surrey Eagles on Friday night, and the Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Sunday.
