Penguins Swing Minor Deal
In a swap of minor-league forwards, the Penguins dealt Corey Andonovski to the Blues for Mathias Lafferierre.
Although the trade doesn’t figure to impact the big-league roster (at least ours), it continues an all-too-familiar trend of pushing guys who play with an edge out the door (not too mention players brought on board during the Ron Hextall era).
Indeed, the deal comes on the heels of another swap involving a physical Baby Pens forward, Jagger Joshua.
While the 25-year-old Andonovski often imitated Mike Lange’s bulldozer in a construction yard (i.e., throwing bone-rattling checks), he topped out at 30 points (7+23) last season and didn’t figure to be a part of our future plans.
As for Lafferierre? The word nondescript immediately comes to mind. The 24-year-old, former sixth-round pick of the Blues isn’t especially big (6’1” 185), mean or productive (two goals this season for Springfield of the AHL).
His best season? Nine goals and 26 points in 50 games with the Thunderbirds in 2022-23.
