Events Center packed for the return of ice hockey in Topeka
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Ice hockey is officially back in the capital city.
The Topeka Roadrunners and Scarecrows battled it out at Landon Arena in the Stormont Vail Events Center. However, the crowd was so big, that game had to delay from its 7:30 p.m. start time to make sure fans didn't miss out.
Don Lewis, the owner of the future Topeka ice hockey team told 27 News this turnout is great news for the future of ice hockey in the capital city.
"Super excited, couldn't be more excited for what's to hold in the future for Topeka hockey," Lewis said. "I mean, this isn't even their hockey team and there's over 3,500 people in the stands it's incredible."
Brenda Sidebottom, an Auburn resident, said that she used to be a season ticket holder the last time the Roadrunners were in Topeka, and is excited to see the sport return.
"We're excited, we'll get season tickets again," Sidebottom said. "When we pulled in and saw all the cars, we thought, 'This is great, this is great!' I just hope that they keep it up."
If you missed the Friday night game, don't worry, there's more games Saturday, Jan. 25, Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1.
