Topeka Roadrunners, Scarecrows returning for ice hockey games
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Several hockey games are set to happen at the Stormont Vail Events Center later this month with callbacks to old Topeka hockey teams.
Allison Geist with the Stormont Vail Events Center announced in a press release that several hockey games are coming soon to Topeka. The Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) is bringing four neutral-site games to Topeka at the events center.
Two teams competing in the event have taken the Topeka name as inspiration ahead of the games. The Danville Dashers have rebranded as the Topeka Scarecrows while the Baton Rouge Zydeco and Port Huron Prowlers have rebranded as the Topeka Road Runners. Both the Topeka Scarecrows and Topeka Roadrunners were hockey teams in the Capital City in previous years.
- Topeka Scarecrows vs. Baton Rouge Zydeco - 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 24.
- Topeka Scarecrows vs. Baton Rouge Zydeco - 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 25.
- Topeka Scarecrows vs. Topeka Road Runners - 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 31.
- Topeka Scarecrows vs. Topeka Road Runners - 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 1.
“We are extremely optimistic about the return of professional hockey to Topeka,” said Kellen Seitz, general manager of the Stormont Vail Events Center. “These games are a unique opportunity to unite the community, boost the local economy, and establish Topeka as a premier destination for sports and entertainment.”
Geist said the hockey games will serve as an opportunity to test the possibility of establishing a permanent FPHL team in Topeka for the 2025-2026 season. People can buy tickets and learn more about the events by clicking here.
