Spruce Kings Fall 4-1 to Eagles
The Surrey Eagles scored 4 unanswered goals in the third period to knock off the Prince George Spruce Kings 4-1 on Friday night in South Surrey.
Prince George had a number of good looks in the first period but couldn’t beat netminder Aidan Fischer. On the flip side, the defenders took a number of scoring chances away from the Eagles as Dylan Johnson stood tall in an opening stanza that saw the shot total sit at 13-10 for the Spruce Kings.
A late cross-checking major to Trent Ballentyne put the Spruce Kings behind the eight ball to start the second period, but after a big penalty kill, the momentum seemed to shift.
When the Spruce Kings got their first power play of the game, Will Moore made no mistake with his ninth of the season from Trent LeDrew and Brock Cummings.
The Spruce Kings would maintain the lead to the intermission, also holding an 23-19 edge in shots after 40 minutes.
Just 1:52 into the 3rd period, Jackson Anderson scored on the power play to get the Eagles all square.
With Joven Brar in the box at 3:11, Gavin Rocha forced a turnover and tucked one over the line shorthanded at 4:25 to give the Eagles their first lead.
Brandon Gill made it 3-1 as he went in all alone and went backhand upstairs off a Jagjeevan Phangura drop pass which confused the Spruce Kings defenders. The Eagles held a 10-1 edge in shots in the 3rd at that moment.
For the next nine minutes, the Spruce Kings peppered Fischer, who stood tall and had some help clearing rebounds. Shots ended up 13-13 in the period.
Sihwan Kim scored into an empty net at 18:32 to round out the scoring.
