Transactions: Bernard and Primeau Loaned to Reading

Phantoms Wrap-Up 2024 vs. Charlotte on New Year’s Eve

Allentown, PA – The Lehigh Valley Phantoms have loaned defenseman Xavier Bernard and forward Mason Primeau to the Reading Royals of the ECHL.

Bernard, 24, has played in 10 games with the Phantoms this season recording one assist. The Mercier, Quebec native has also played in two games with Reading.

Bernard has played in 62 career games in the AHL with the Belleville Senators, Bakersfield Condors and Lehigh Valley Phantoms scoring 1-4-5. He has also played in 109 ECHL career games where the 6’4″, lefty-shot has scored 6-29-35 with the Atlanta Gladiators, Allen Americans, Fort Wayne Komets and Reading Royals

Bernard was selected in the fourth round by the New Jersey Devils in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft out of the QMJHL where he played for Drummondville and Charlottetown

Primeau, 23, is a 6’6″ center with a lefty shot from Toronto, ON. He has played in seven games with the Reading Royals scoring three goals with one assist and has also played in one game with the Phantoms making his Lehigh Valley debut on December 21 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He spent most of the past three seasons with the Henderson (NV) Silver Knights of the AHL.

Last year with Henderson, Primeau scored two goals with four assists for six points in 44 games. He has played in 134 career AHL games scoring 10-18-28. Primeau has also appeared in 25 ECHL games with Fort Wayne, Savannah and Reading scoring 8-8-16.

Mason Primeau is the son of former NHL veteran Wayne Primeau who played 774 career NHL games with Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, San Jose, Boston, Calgary, and Toronto and is the nephew of former Flyers’ captain Keith Primeau who played six seasons for Philadelphia from 1999-2006.

The Phantoms are back in action tonight against the Charlotte Checkers in the annual New Year’s Eve game at PPL Center including Light-Up sticks from Penn Community Bank and the World’s Largest Puck Drop outside the arena after the game to ring in 2025!
