Military Appreciation Weekend

Fans attending this weekend’s games against the North Iowa Bulls saw the Bismarck Bobcats take the ice for warm ups with special painted helmets for Military Appreciation Night. In past years, the Bobcats have partnered with local artists and designers in North Dakota to produce customized jerseys and helmets. This year was no exception, and local professionals were contracted to put their skills on the ice.

This year’s helmets were painted by Glenn Youngerman of Dunk Tank Designs, who specialize in cerakote designs and one of the few certified artists in the Great Plains Region. His company has been contracted before with the Fargo Force of the United States Hockey League (USHL), and last year was also contracted by the Bobcats for working on their uniforms for Military Appreciation Night.

“I have been doing the customized helmets for the Fargo Force military events for the last seven years, this one was the eighth… Somebody saw the helmets at a game, and shared it with Brad (Feldman) and the Bobcats reached out. This is our second year working together.” – Youngerman.

The designs for the helmets are painted in military camouflage, often in accordance with the jerseys given to his company by the Bobcats before the games. Some are military centered, while other jerseys highlight the first responders and national guard of North Dakota.

“This year what I always do is tie it into the jerseys. Most of the jersey patterns have been something military, police, first responder related. So I look to match the colors and theme.” – Youngerman.
