Two-Goal Lead Evaporates in Loss to Rivermen
The Langley Rivermen scored four times in the second period as the Spruce Kings saw a 2-0 lead evaporate in a 6-3 loss on Friday night at the George Preston Rec Centre.
Skogen Schrott got the Spruce Kings on the board with a power-play goal at 7:36, after a little give and go with Kazumo Sasaki. Brogan McNeil drew the second assist.
Just under four minutes later, McNeil found Carter Hesselgrave in the slot, and he slid the puck over to Cooper Williams who found the yawning cage to make it 2-0. The Spruce Kings outshot Langley 10-8 in the first 20 minutes.
The Rivermen would get on the board just 3:00 into the second period, as Ryan Schelling went upstairs on a pass from Dalton MacGillivray.
Then, on a double-minor penalty kill, Schelling scored his second of the night, before MacGillivray added on just 26 seconds later to make it 3-2.
On the Rivermen 3rd power play of the period, Jackson Krill’s shot found the back of the net as well.
Ryder Green entered the game after that goal, playing the remaining 27:03 of the game.
McNeil got the Spruce Kings within a goal at 12:58 of the third period, as Lucas Veilleux’s shot was blocked, before his second attempt was deflected in. Trent Ballentyne drew the second assist.
As the Spruce Kings pressed for the tying goal, a breakdown in the defensive zone lead to Adyn Merrick beating Green with a wrist shot at 15:42 to renew the 2-goal lead.
Ilya Rogovsky scored into an empty net to make it 6-3.
