Game Preview: Vernon Vipers vs. Okotoks Oilers

0 5

Vernon, BC:  The Vernon Vipers aim to snap a two-game winless streak tonight as they host the Okotoks Oilers, wrapping up a three-game homestand.

The Vipers, currently at 5-9-4, have shown resilience despite recent setbacks, dropping a close 4-3 overtime decision against Sherwood Park on Saturday. With a home record of just 1-4-3, the Vipers will look to find more success in front of their fans and break through for a much-needed home victory.

Okotoks comes into tonight’s matchup at 7-9-0, facing their own challenges on the road with a 2-6 record away from home. The Oilers are riding the momentum of a 3-2 win against West Kelowna last Saturday and will look to carry that success into tonight’s game. Over their last 10 games, Okotoks holds a solid 6-4 record, while Vernon has managed a respectable 4-3-3, losing only three games in regulation during that span.

In terms of offensive leaders, Vernon’s Will Schumacher tops the team stats with 6 goals and 10 assists, while Okotoks’ Brett Wilson leads his squad with 6 goals and 8 assists. Both players will be central to their team’s efforts tonight as they look to spark their respective offenses.

Special teams could play a significant role in this contest. Vernon boasts the fourth-best power play in the BCHL, a unit that went 3-for-5 in their last outing. Meanwhile, Okotoks ranks last in the league for both power play and penalty kill percentage.

Tonight’s game marks the second of four meetings between these teams this season. The Oilers claimed the first matchup on October 20th in Okotoks, and the Vipers will be looking to even the series with a win on home ice.

Puck drop is at 7:00 PM at Kal Tire Place as the Vipers and Oilers both fight for two crucial points.
