Vernon, BC – Penticton saved their best for last, Saturday in Vernon. Trailing 2-1 going into the third, the Vees scored three times to come back to beat the Vipers 4-3 at Kal Tire Place.

The win was the Vees third in a row and fifth in their first six games of the season. The loss extended the Vipers’ season-opening losing streak to six games.

Two minutes changed everything in the final frame. The Vees scored three in just 2:03 to turn a 2-1 deficit, into a 4-2 lead. Max Heise tied it on the power play at 2:07 with his fourth goal in four games. Then, 47 seconds later, Ryden Evers put the Vees ahead 3-2 when he scored on his own rebound. Matthew Cataldo capped off the rally when he squeezed his shot through the goalie’s arm from the left wing at 4:10 that put Penticton up 4-2.

“We were fighting it through two periods, we couldn’t get the bounces to go our way, but when that happens you got to simplify, and we did that. We started playing faster, we were more physical, and we got back to our details. Our veterans led the charge” said Assistant Coach Matthew Vanden Berg post-game.

Anselmo Rego scored in the first period to put the Vees up 1-0 five minutes into the game. His goal came after his pass from the wing went off the defenceman’s skate and past the Vernon goaltender. Rego has recorded at least a point in all six games this season.

Vernon did respond with two goals in the opening frame to take a 2-1 lead into the dressing room. Carson McGinley tied it on Vernon’s only power play at 7:34, then Koji Gibson put the Snakes ahead 2-1 at 14:26.

Will Ingemann picked up his fourth win of the season as he turned aside 33 shots. Ingemann stopped a combined 52 of 56 shots in his two wins this weekend over Okotoks and Vernon.

Max Heise now has four goals and five points in his last three games. He’s just two goals back of equaling his output last season as a rookie.

Penticton picked up another power play goal on Saturday and now have scored four in their last two games. The Vees had just one power play goal in their previous four games.
