Montroy’s Hat-Trick Propels Spruce Kings to Win
Ethan Montroy picked up a hat-trick and Carter Wishart made 51 saves as the Spruce Kings snapped a 4-game losing streak with a 6-3 win over the Surrey Eagles on Saturday night at Kopar Memorial Arena.
The Spruce Kings scored first as Montroy got his first of the night driving through the middle and tipping it past Maddox Osaka, making his first BCHL shift. Assists went to Lucas Veilleux and Skogen Schrott at 5:34.
Montroy got his second of the night on the power play as Schrott dropped it back to him at the blue line and he cut across the middle and snapped it back past Osaka. Ty Paisley drew the second assist.
The Eagles would be awarded a 5 on 3 power play after a major penalty to Lucas Veilleux and a minor to Vital Dinis, and the Eagles took advantage as Sihwan Kim beat Wishart to cut the lead in half.
The game would be tied up at 2 at 16:59 as Brandon Gill got the Eagles on equal footing as he finished off a 2 on 1 with Brady Kudrick.
Just 2:25 into the 3rd period, Montroy completed his hat-trick by picking the puck up at the red line from Jayden Connors, and he went in by himself, beating an Eagles defender and beating Osaka on the blocker side.
Just 1:07 later, it was Kazumo Sasaki finishing off a 2 on 1 with Montroy to widen the lead to 4-2.
The Spruce Kings took a 3-goal lead off Paisley’s 2nd of the season, as he took a faceoff win from Brock Cummings and ripped it past Osaka.
Schrott rounded out the Spruce Kings offensive effort, poking one over the goal line from an Evan Bellamy point shot. Sasaki drew the second assist.
The Eagles added a late marker with 14 seconds left as Brady Kudrick one-timed one past Wishart on the 54th Surrey shot to make it a 6-3 final.
