Weekend Preview: Spruce Kings still gunning for home playoff spot

0 4

With two games remaining in the regular season schedule, these games have much more meaning for the Prince George Spruce Kings than they do for their opponent in the Cranbrook Bucks. The Bucks have solidified their spot as the 2nd seed in the Interior Division and can neither move up or down in the standings. Meanwhile, Prince George is in a heated battle with four other teams. Still, two home-ice playoff spots are up for grabs with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks and West Kelowna Warriors currently holding those two positions, but three points separate third from seventh.

The Prince George Spruce Kings will wrap up their regular season in Cranbrook, taking on a Bucks team that holds a 3-0 season series lead, and ultimately winning it regardless of the outcome of these two games.

One goal has determined two of the three meetings between the two teams. Jarrod Smith and Jack Silich have both put up four points through the season series against the Spruce Kings this season. For Prince George, the scoring touch against the Bucks has been found through the stick of Jack Stockfish. The North Bay, Ontario product has tallied three goals in three meetings.

Bucks’ defenceman Bauer Morrissey enters the weekend on an eight-game point streak (4-6-10). For the Spruce Kings, Ty Gagno and Kai Greaves are on four-game point streaks. Gagno has scored a goal and three assists in that stretch while Greaves has tallied six assists in that same stretch.
