Toronto Maple Leafs showing resiliency during difficult stretch

0 8

Pittsburgh: Although they are missing three of their top four defencemen, the Toronto Maple Leafs display resiliency and continue to triumph. In their third and final meeting with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Leafs finished with a final score of 4-1 and improved their record to 13-5-5 on the season.

Mitch Marner would open the scoring less than a minute into the game while adding an assist extending his point streak to 16 straight games, making it the longest point streak of the season. William Nylander and Auston Matthews would also find the back of the net and Matthews would also collect two assists to finish the night with three points. On the man-advantage, the Leafs are performing at 24 per cent in November converting on 9 of the 37 opportunities making it the eighth best powerplay in the league.

The Leafs have collected six points on this four-game road trip in the absence of Morgan Rielly, T.J. Brodie, Jake Muzzin, and Jordie Benn on the blue line. Mark Giordano has been a stalwart during this time on the back end logging well over 20 minutes of ice time per game and sacrificing his body to put up 28 blocked shots in the span of six games. The final stop of the road trip for the Leafs comes in Motor City as they will look to take on the Detroit Red Wings tomorrow night before heading home for a battle against the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday to close out the month.
