Sean Donaldson Commits to Cornell University for 2022-2023 Season

0 9

Sean Donaldson has received a much deserved commitment with Cornell University, a top-end ivy league NCAA Div 1 program.

Donaldson is one of the few remaining players in the league that have won a BCHL championship, which he received while playing on the Prince George Spruce Kings in the 2018-2019 season. After the championship season, he moved onto the Nanaimo Clippers in the 2019-2020 season, where he had 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points in 44 games, in a season shortened by injury.

Donaldson was by far the best player on the Clippers during the 2020-2021 Extended Training Camp helping the Clippers win the Island Cup Championship. But when the season was put on hold due to Covid-19 restrictions, he went down south to the USHL to continue his hockey career. Fortunately for the Clippers, Donaldson decided to return to the BCHL for his final Junior A hockey season. He has not disappointed as he sits in 3rd place in the BCHL scoring race at 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 points in his first 17 games. The 15 goals places Donaldson at 2nd overall in the league for goal scoring too.

Hence, Donaldson is now in his third season with the Clippers and has shown a continual improvement in his offensive output each year.

Darren Naylor, GM and Head Coach of the Clippers committed; “Sean is going to be a force in the NCAA as he is an elite level skater who knows how to score goals. He is a gamebreaker type forward who coaches can rely on to produce that all-important game-winner when the going gets tough. I definitely see Sean getting a chance at Pro hockey as his skill set and compete level is there. I can’t be happier for Sean as he deserves this commitment.”

Wes Mussio, Owner and President of the Clippers added; “I am particularly happy with this commitment as I have known Sean since the BWC minor hockey days and he is a good friend of my son. This is just one more example of the coaching staff bringing in an uncommitted player, giving him a chance to play and securing that coveted NCAA Div 1 scholarship. It is easy to bring in committed players and brag about how good your program is but the better program is the one that produces commitments and the Clippers are definitely that program.”
