Recap – Vipers Score Late to Spoil Smoke Eater Comeback

0 2

It wasn’t the start the Smoke Eaters were hoping for, nor was it the ending they had in mind after being tied 2-2 going to the third, as the Smoke Eaters are learning the hard way you can’t take any shift off in this league.

The Vipers who were coming off a 5-1 win on home ice Wednesday, kicked the night off with a Cam MacDonald goal 3:06 into the game as Vipers captain Jojo Tanaka-Campbell fed MacDonald cross ice for a one timer off the rush. Fradette got a piece of it but not enough to keep the puck out. The Vipers would double their lead before the period was out on the powerplay as Reagan Millburn was able to poke a lose puck over the line.

In the second the Smoke Eaters came out with their response and got two goals in quick succession courtesy of Brady Hunter who added his 6th and 7th. The first was by far his best of the year as he took the outlet from Moger and Barton and let fly a wrist shot to beat Ethan David on the blocker side.

Then just 36 second layer Hunter would score again as Cunningham and Michaelis helped combine for the goal that tied the game up at two.

In the third Hunter was again in on the action forcing a turnover in the neutral zone fed Quinn Disher who would score shorthanded and give the Smoke Eaters the lead!

From there the Vipers were able to battle back and score three unanswered en route to the win. The firs was a point shot by Nick Kent that fooled everyone on the ice to tie the game at three. Then the vipers added one on another weird bounce with just four minutes left before they parked the bus. MacDonald would score late with the Smoke Eaters trying to pull the goaltender to seal it at 5-3.

The Smoke Eaters now head to Merritt on Saturday looking to get back in the win column.
