Frederik Andersen to Marlies for AHL conditioning stint

Chris Johnston is reporting that the Toronto Maple Leafs will be sending goalie Frederik Andersen to the AHL Marlies for a conditioning stint, starting with Thursday’s home game against the Manitoba Moose.

Andersen has been out since March 19th with an ailment and has been on LTI since then. He will remain on LTI during his conditioning stint, allowing the Leafs to still ice a cap-legal roster.
Andersen can be in the AHL for up to 14 days on the conditioning loan. The Leafs season ends in nine days so he won’t have to get activated before the end of the regular season.
Correction: The LITR conditioning loan is 3 games (in the AHL, NHL games aren’t relevant) or 6 days, whichever comes first. Teams can apply to extend them by two games, and that is never denied. The player does not count against the cap, and can return to the NHL roster and remain on LTIR until cleared to play NHL hockey.
Starting tomorrow, the Marlies have 12 games in 14 days to finish their season (May 20th), so Andersen will be eligible to play in any/all of them.
Andersen last played in the AHL with the Norfolk Admirals between 2012 and 2014, a year after that infamous Calder Cup Finals with the Toronto Marlies. He had a .930 save percentage in 51 games across two seasons.
