BURNABY (May 1st, 2021) – The Powell River Kings started the month of May with a 2-1 loss to the Surrey Eagles on Saturday afternoon, falling to a record of 7-7-1-1.

With the win, Surrey was able to extend their win streak to nine and clinch top spot in the Burnaby pod.

The Eagles converted on the power play at 8:37 when Brett Bliss set up Holden Katzalay with a one-time to open the scoring in the hockey game.

Early in the second, another power play goal from Katzalay put the Eagles ahead 2-0. Jacob Bonkowski responded for the Kings over a minute later with his second of the season, with an assist credited to Brody Johnson, but that was as close as the Kings would get.

Thomas Scarfone made 21 saves for his first career win against the Kings. Nick Peters made 27 saves for Powell River and was named first star of the game.

The Kings begin their final week of the season Monday night against the Coquitlam Express. Puck drop is at 8pm.
