PENGUINS WEEKLY 3/2/21

0 4

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a roll going into March

The Penguins (4-2-1-0) have strung together three-straight wins

Weekly Rewind

Wednesday, Feb. 24 – PENGUINS 4 vs. Hershey 2
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton started their week by clearing the obstacle the Hershey Bears had presented this season and handed the Bears their first regulation loss of the year. Radim Zohorna led the way with a two-goal, one-assist performance.

Friday, Feb. 26 – PENGUINS 4 vs. Lehigh Valley 2
The Penguins also delivered the Lehigh Valley Phantoms their first regulation loss of 2020-21, thanks to a well-balanced offense and stingy penalty kill. Jon Lizotte lit the lamp for the first time since his pro debut (Apr. 13 at Lehigh Valley) and Félix Robert scored his first AHL goal.

Saturday, Feb. 27 – PENGUINS 5 at Lehigh Valley 4 (OT)
In an encore performance of their Friday win, the Pens downed the Phantoms in overtime. Jordy Bellerive and Sam Miletic made their triumphant returns to the lineup with a goal and an assist each, and Frédérick Gaudreau tallied the OT-winner.

The Week Ahead

Wednesday, Mar. 3 – PENGUINS vs. Syracuse
The team that Wilkes-Barre/Scranton defeated for its first win of the season visits Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza for a second helping. On Feb. 13, the Penguins and Crunch combined for five goals in a span of 4:35 during the third period.

Saturday, Mar. 6 – PENGUINS at Binghamton
The Penguins will dance with the Devils for the first time since the 2020-21 season opener, an overtime loss at home. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton looks to return the favor now in Newark.

Monday, Mar. 8 – PENGUINS vs. Lehigh Valley
Lehigh Valley heads up the turnpike for another Keystone State showdown. In the past 15 meetings between the Penguins and Phantoms, the home team is 10-1-3-1.

Ice Chips

– Before Frédérick Gaudreau, the last player to score his first goal as a Penguin in overtime was Brendan Mikkelson (Oct. 20, 2013 at Manchester).

– Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has not trailed after the first period once this season.

– The 36 shots on goal the Penguins generated on Saturday was their most all season.

– Dating back to last season, Jordy Bellerive has 12 goals in his last 22 games.

– The Penguins are 8-2-1-0 when Bellerive scores a goal. Six of those eight wins were in games decided by one goal.
