Cats edge out Titan 7-6 in overtime
Jordan Spence’s third goal of the night nearly two minutes into overtime was the game-winner as the Wildcats upended the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, 7-6, Friday at the KC Irving Regional Centre. Francis Langlois scored twice for Moncton while Jacob Hudson and Connor Olson added one each. Philippe Daoust contributed four assists. Goalie Nicholas Sheehan earned his first QMJHL win in his first-ever appearance, making 24 saves in the triumph. The win is Moncton’s second in a row and it snaps Acadie-Bathurst’s five-game winning streak. The home side opened the scoring 66 seconds into the game, but Langlois evened the score six minutes later. Spence buried a power play goal halfway through the period to give Moncton its first lead. The Titan made it 2-2 late in the period and got its first lead with a power play goal six minutes into the second. Hudson square the affair again with five-and-a-half minutes left in the middle stanza. The teams exchanged goals in the final two minutes, including an Olson marker that made it 4-4 through forty minutes. Langlois put Moncton in front again two minutes into the third only to be countered by Acadie-Bathurst four minutes later. Spence potted another power goal less than a minute after that to make it 6-5 for Moncton. The Titan netted a man-advantage goal of their own with eight minutes left, setting the stage for overtime. Spence’s winner came after a face off win in the Acadie-Bathurst zone. The Los Angeles Kings’ prospect fired a slap shot from the right side of the blueline that got past the glove of goalie Chad Arsenault to end the game.
