Trevor Daley named Hockey Operations Adviser with the Penguins

The former Penguins defenseman will take on a new role off the ice.

The Penguins announced Monday afternoon that Trevor Daley has been named a Hockey Operations Adviser with the team.

This news comes after earlier in the day, Jason Karmanos was “relieved of his duties” as assistant general manager.

In a release from the team, Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford stated that Daley’s duties will involve assisting in player evaluations at the NHL and AHL level, as well as acting as an ‘eye in the sky’ for the coaching staff during games.

Daley’s work will be based out of Pittsburgh and he will report directly to Rutherford.

Daley had recently retired as a player after a 16-year career split between Dallas, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Detroit.

Daley was a key piece in the defense corps that won the Stanley Cup in Pittsburgh in 2016 and 2017.

“First, I would like to congratulate Trevor on an incredibly successful 16-year career,” said Rutherford in a press release. “In addition to being a Stanley Cup Champion with us, he left us with a great impression due to his professional demeanor and quiet leadership qualities. Those traits, along with his desire to want to learn about the business side of the NHL, made him a great candidate to join our staff.”
