Giants Put Out Flames With Four Point Weekend
The Stena Line Belfast Giants made it two weekend wins thanks to Sunday’s 5-2 victory in Guildford. 29 saves from Owen plus goals from Hamilton, Goodwin, Farnham, Long and Raine saw the Giants follow up on Saturday’s home win over Glasgow by the same scoreline.
After Sunday’s road win – the Giants remain third in the standings with 48 points from 38 games. The Sheffield Steelers remain in first place with 57 points from 40 games and the Giants next opponents, the Cardiff Devils, stay second with 50 points from 36 games.
Shane Owen started in the Belfast net, posting 29 saves, with the Giants missing Liam Reddox and Pat Mullen.

Frantic First In Guildford
Belfast took an early lead in Guildford with only 2:07 on the clock. Bobby Farnham won the puck back for the Giants in the visitors’ zone before Ciaran Long skated the length of the ice and selflessly fed the puck to Curtis Hamilton at the back post for a one-timer and the go-ahead goal.
Guildford hit back at 6:17, taking full advantage of a 5-on-3 powerplay with both Matt Pelech and Paul Swindlehurst in the penalty box. It was a sweeping special teams move from the Flames with Jordan Rowley and Brett Ferguson moving the puck well and leaving Jamie Crooks with a simple finish.
However the Giants regained their lead at 9:28 thanks to David Goodwin’s classy backhanded finish, assisted by Matt Pelech and Liam Morgan.
Goodwin was involved again at 15:35, when he took exception to Brett Ferguson’s hit on Ben Lake and dropped the gloves with the Guildford forward.
Farnham Cancels Out Flames Equaliser
The Flames drew level once again at 29:56 thanks to Brandon Shmyr’s one-timer, assisted by John Dunbar and Jesse Craige.
Belfast edged ahead at 35:10 when Bobby Farnham skated in on goal and produced a fine solo finish around Wouter Peeters in the Guildford goal.
Long And Raine Complete Win
Ciaran Long gave the Giants a two goal cushion, cooly slotting home at 42:32, after Peeters in the Flames goal was unable to control Ryan Lowney’s shot from the blueline.
Kevin Raine made sure of the win when he won the puck back in the neutral zone and fired it into the empty Guildford net at 59:03.
