Fellow Lightning prospect Ryan Lohin assisted on UML’s lone goal of the evening. Guttman opened the scoring late in the 2nd period and then helped setup the first of two Jarid Lukosevicius (undrafted) power play markers early in the 3rd as Denver sprung to a 3-0 lead. Lohin set up a Seth Barton (DET, 2018 3rd round pick) power play goal later in the 3rd to cut the UML deficit to 3-1 but Pioneer goalie Filip Larsson (DET, 2016 6th round pick) shut the door the rest of the way. Guttman’s 8th tally is good for tops in the nation among all freshman, and teammate Emilio Pettersen (CGY, 2018 6th round pick), who notched a pair of assists in the game, ranks 2nd among collegiate freshman with 17 points.

The Pioneers improve to 10-4-2 (4-4 NCHC) and continue their road trip through Madison next weekend for a two-game series against the Badgers. UML drops to 8-8-1 (4-4-1 HEAST) and gears up to take on the #2-ranked Minutemen at the Amherst campus next Friday night.
