[Women's Golf] Mehaffey earns CoSIDA Academic All-District College Division™ honors

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – A sophomore standout for the Olivet Nazarene University women's golf team, Mackenzie Mehaffey (SO/Winchester, Ind.), has earned a spot on the 2016-17 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ Women's At-Large Team for College Division District 2 for the first time. She is one of 10 players from her district to earn the award and one of 42 total to be named from across the nation. The award is voted on by Sports Information Directors from across the country in the college division.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America® College Division Men's and Women's At-Large teams honor student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable). No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. CoSIDA members may nominate student-athletes only from their own institution.

On the course, Mehaffey led the Tigers to a second-place finish at the CCAC Championships in the final week of April. She finished tied for 15th overall after shooting 10 strokes better on day two.  The Tigers also won three invitationals during the 2016-17 season.

During the season she recorded six top 10 finishes among the 12 meets she competed in during the 2016-17 campaign.  In four of those meets, the sophomore claimed individual medalist honors (including three straight) and was runner-up on one occasion.  She placed in the top-20 in all one but invitational and was above 90 on the scorecard one time. Mehaffey shot five of her 23 rounds under 80, and shot a season-best two-day score of 149 (74-75, +5) (74 was one-day best) at the University of St. Francis (Ind.) Spring Invite early in April.  She finished the year with an average round of 82.4.

In the classroom, Crater, has maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.77 through two academic years. She is majoring in Communication Studies.

Joining Mehaffey on the all-district team are two other honorees from ONU; Vanessa VanOost (Swimming) and Tiffany Ray (Swimming).
