[Women's Golf] Women's Golf | Treveccan Alexa Rippy 10th at NCAA Regional; Follow Round 2 Tuesday

CANTON, Ohio – Alexa Rippy of the Trevecca Nazarene University women's golf team is 10th of 66 after first round play at the NCAA-II East Super Regional in the 2017 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships.

It is the third consecutive season she has qualified for NCAA Region play. Rippy, the three-time Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Medalist, is looking to advance to the NCAA Championships in her final opportunity.

Rippy, who shot a three-over par 75, opened play in unfamiliar fashion, going four-over par in the first five holes. From there the senior steadied and shot one-under over the remaining 13 holes with three birdies.

Katharina Keilch of the University of Indianapolis and Maria Sol Pose of Grand Valley State University are leading with each recording a two-under 70.

The record-setting Trojan golfer is competing against a 12-team regional field (66 individuals) playing at the Glenmoor Country Club (web), a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course, in Canton, Ohio, May 8-10, 2017. It is one of four regionals, hosted by future G-MAC member Walsh University, being conducted over the same weekend. The par-72 course is 6,197 yards long.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament, will send the top three teams along with the top-three individuals (not with an advancing team) to the national championships. All 12 bids in each region are at-large with no automatic qualifiers for conference champions. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each super regional will advance to the NCAA Championships.

The Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Glenmoor features 10 holes with water challenges and greenside slopes and mounds that can be unpredictable.

The NCAA Division II Women's Golf National Championships (web home) will be hosted by future G-MAC member University of Findlay at the Findlay Country Club. The 2017 NCAA Division II National Championship will take place on May 17-20 with the Oilers serving as the host to the 72 golfers.
