Last year we had three mixed matches against other Clubs (one cancelled) and all the Mixed competitions (apart from the Valentines trophy which was rained off) took place. The winners will be announced at the Presentation evening on April 1st. We have got off to a good start this year with the Valentines trophy being played. Three mixed matches have been confirmed and we are working on two others being arranged, namely Merlin hopefully at home and Boringdon away alongside the usual Mixed competitions. Incoming Captains Report A year on from the 2016 AGM where I had the honour of being voted into the post of Club Captain. From members and Ambassadors of the Club, the Trethorne management team, and Committee who have supported me in the past 17 months; thank you. From your encouragement, endorsement of my actions, I am delighted to stand here this evening having been asked and voted in for a second-year term. Objectives for the past year were to implement a Think Tank to improve the structure towards competitions, with a target aim of getting greater participation; and progress the concreting of the sponsorship program. Well the Think Tank has come in the form of a competition select committee, in which Les, Darrel and Gary have taken on the duties to aid and offset some of the timely tasks, and subsequently helped entry to competitions increase from an average 15-20 to 25-30. Gentlemen, my gratitude. The Club can now boast some form of social or competitive event every weekend, 52 weeks of the year and include NEW competitions, 21 inter-club matches 13 of which are for the Mens section, alongside the Clubs traditional cups, trophies and shields. Alongside this, whenever there is a Mens competition, there is now a Ladies event, allowing husband and wives to come to the club together, play in their respective competition and leave for home together. We have increased County participation for this coming year, by entering four pairings in the CGU’s Lord Lieutenants Trophy and a team in the County Weeks’ B team championship, with entries being shared across membership wherever possible. Playing in the match at Merlin last Sunday, I was proud to look around and notice my players observing the Trethorne black and white team kit, with most displaying the current range of jumper and shirt. Such a financial commitment represents Trethorne well when playing home or away, and I personally thank all who are able and have made such an effort. For the first time, the Club has a sponsorship program that will benefit social and competitive events to the tune of £2,000 over the year. Payments will be made throughout the financial year and be made as donations, such cannot be included within the annual accounts for the year, but will clearly be identified as receivable donations when the accounts are presented. I am extremely grateful for all support and indeed commitment to this coming season, and hopefully beyond. My thanks to all. I would like The Captains charity to be split into three causes for a second year. The first, in support of the County wide, Cornwall air ambulance; and more local to home, The Launceston Food Bank who provide emergency food to people in crisis; and Launceston pre-school who having received planning consent, are now looking to enhance the school by converting a store into a Sensory Room for children with Special Needs, at a cost of around £5k. Lady Captain; Charlie, Seniors Captain; John, and of course Honourable Secretary members of the Committee, I look forward to working with you all for the better of the Club in the year ahead. For the second year, thank you for entrusting me with the title of Club Captain A.O.B. &
