[Women's Golf] ONU, Tyler finish second at CCAC Championships
FLOSSMOOR, Ill. — Thursday morning the Olivet Nazarene University women's golf team took to the first tee at Flossmoor Country Club in defense of their CCAC Championship from 2016. After 18 holes they trailed by only seven strokes of first place. 18 holes later on Friday the Tigers were unable to overcome the deficit and fell behind six more strokes to finish in second place overall. Yet, Sydney Tyler (SR/Bloomington, Ill.) was outstanding in her final rounds for Olivet finishing second overall with a 164 (+18).
A total of 48 golfers played in the 36-hole, two-day event at the par-73, 6192-yard course, Flossmoor Country Club. ONU finished second overall with a team score of 687 (354-333, +103). Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) won the title with a score of 674 (347-327, +90). St. Xavier University (Ill.) shot a score of 710 (366-344, +126) to finish third. University of St. Francis (Ill.) came in fourth with a score of 722 (369-353, +138).
The Tigers had all five golfers finish in the top 20, as they battled the cold, windy weather in the Chicagoland area. Sydney Tyler tied for second shooting a two-day score of 164 (82-82, +18). Kayla Owens (FR/Richmond, Ind.) finished sixth overall with a score of 175 (90-85, +29). Julie Hogan (JR/Pontiac, Ill.) finished tied for ninth shooting a 176 (87-89, +30). Mackenzie Mehaffey (SO/Winchester, Ind.) finished tied for 15th with a 180 (95-85, +34). Stephanie Eby (SO/Lemont, Ill.) tied for 18th, shooting a 183 (102-81, +37).
ONU's season is now complete as well as the careers of seniors Sydney Tyler and Lyndsey Herndon (SR/Pinckney, Mich.).
