[Men's Golf] Men's Golf | Trevecca Trojans Advances to NCAA-II Super Regional
NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's golf team qualified for the NCAA-II Central/Midwest Super Regional in the 2017 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships for the second consecutive season. The Trojans will be one of 20 teams competing in the Central/Midwest Regional at Awarii Dunes Golf Course (web) in Axtell, Neb., May 8-10.

Trevecca qualified for the regional for the second time in just its third full season of NCAA Division II play. Trevecca, the 2017 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) champion, is the 10th seed in the Midwest, the Trojans are the only Great Midwest Athletic Conference team to make the field. Trevecca has won the G-MAC title five consecutive seasons.
Trevecca is averaging a 299.62 scoring average this season, the best season average in program history. The Trojans have two wins, the season opening G-MAC Fall Invitational and the G-MAC Conference Tournament last week. The later win gave the Trojans the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Super Regional. Trevecca also finished second at the Mississippi College Invitational and had four other top five finishes.
Trevecca's five golfers headed to the regional are; Garrett Evans (78.64), Payton Williams (76.61), Larken Whittemore (74.55), Trevor Lay (75.62), and Landon Cottrell (74.91) will represent Trevecca at the regional.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by the University of Nebraska Kearney, begins Monday, May 8th. Teams will tee off daily between 7:45-9:15 AM and again between 12:15-1:45 PM The event is free and open to the public. Live results will be available at www.ncaa.com and www.lopers.com.
There are 10 teams and four individuals from the Midwest Region. Tiffin University, who will join the G-MAC in two seasons, is one of five GLIAC teams representing the Midwest in the field. Four GLVC teams to made the Midwest field. Missouri-St. Louis earned the top seed, with GLVC-champ Bellarmine and Maryville earning the fourth and eighth seeds, respectively. GLIAC-champ Grand Valley (2-seed) and G-MAC-champ Trevecca (10) round out the Midwest field.
The Central Region is made up of schools from the MIAA, NSIC (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conf.) and GAC (Great American Conf.). The Midwest Region is represented by the GLVC (Great Lakes Valley Conf.) GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conf.) and G-MAC (Great Midwest Athletic Conf.).
The NCAA selected 80 teams stretching across eight different regions to compete at the regional tournament level. The top five teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 22-26, at Reunion Resort in Kissimmee, Fla.
