[Women's Golf] Cardinal Stritch Claims CCAC Championship
FLOSSMOOR, Ill. (April 28, 2017)— Claiming three of the top five finishes at the 2017 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Golf Championships, Cardinal Stritch University won their very first league title and first ever berth to the NAIA National Tournament on Friday afternoon at Flossmoor Country Club.
For the second consecutive year, Stritch's Hanna Stradling was crowned the 2017 Conference Champion, successfully defending her 2016 title.
Holding a 7-stroke lead over the second place Olivet Nazarene University Tigers after the first round of play on Thursday, the Wolves finished 13 strokes ahead of ONU following the completion of the tournament Friday.
Cardinal Stritch University carded a two round total of 678 (347-347) with Olivet Nazarene totaling a 687 (354-333) for second place. With the conference tournament champions advancing to the NAIA National Championships, the Stritch Wolves will advance to the finals which will be held May 23-26 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Placing third in the 11-team field was Saint Xavier University, who tallied a two round total of 710 (366-344). The University of St. Francis placed fourth at 722 (369-353) and Holy Cross College rounded out the top five team finishes, carding a 731 (377-354).
Stritch's Hannah Stradling (Devizes, England) was the conference individual champion tallying a score of 157 (79-78). Olivet's Sydney Tyler and Saint Xavier's Taylor Thompson tied for second place shooting a +18 with scores of 164. Stritch's Perle Pondepeyre (Lyon, France) and Sydney Clement (Summerland, BC, Canada) completed the top five with scores of 167 and 173.
Each of the top five players of the tournament were recognized as all-tournament selections.
