Committee Meeting August 2016
TRETHORNE GOLF CLUB COMMITTEE MEETING Minutes of Committee Meeting held on Monday 1st August 2016 PRESENT S Saunders, J Austin, H Gushlow, J Vidler, C Eyles APOLOGIES J Grainger, G Saunders, C Edmonds, C Brewer Meeting Started at 1900hrs. Acceptance Minutes of Committee Meeting 6th June 2016 Matters arising. See AOB COURSE REPORT DRY! July was an exceptionally busy month on the course for us with lots of golf events and the Pro-Am. This coupled with some challenging weather. This gave my team the opportunity to stand up and be counted, they did and I am proud of their commitment and achievements. July brought us an increase in temperatures from the cool wet conditions of June to hot days of 31c and warm humid nights of July. I will remember this month for being the 3rd driest July, looking back over the rainfall figures which I have for Trethorne for the last ten years with 48mm, but on the flip side we came out of June being the second wettest in ten years with 138mm. Therefore, a large proportion of the workload for the month relates to balancing the moisture levels in the greens. Others tasks which were carried out include: – · Double verticut the greens and aprons on two occasions to promote upright grass growth. · Spiked with heave the greens to relieve subsurface compaction. · Top-dress to maintain the smoothness of the putting surface. · Over seeded the 3 new greens with 100% take. · Quadra hollow cored all the 18 greens with 8mm tines and top dressed as well, 25 tonnes. · We have edged and applied a growth regulator around all bunkers. · We applied a growth regulator to our tee tops and aprons to maintain the body of growth and to reduce the top growth. This improves presentation whilst not increasing the mowing of the surfaces. · Growth regulator applied to semi rough and all fairways to try and hold some of the excessive growth. · Strimmed around our trees and applied a total. · Strimmed the external banks, hedge bottoms, tee signs. · Black and tanned the fairways to remove a knap on the fairways, otherwise the canopy would become too tight going in to the winter, meaning wet fairways. · Painted all the course furniture. · Removed a hydraulic pump on the rough mower and engine due to a major power drive shaft breakage. · Putting into implementation the schedule for the new pin sheet placement stickers. · Meet the member’s forum. Statistics Rainfall for July 2016 = 48mm AUGUST WORKS GREENS Will be mown daily at 3.50mm – 4.3mm throughout the month. We will apply monthly applications of wetting agents. Solid tine of all the greens. TEES / APRONS Will be mown three times weekly at 12mm. We will apply monthly applications of wetting agents. FAIRWAYS Will be mown two to three times weekly at 20mm. SEMI ROUGH & SURROUNDS. PRIMARY ROUGH Will be mown two to three times weekly at 52mm. Will be mown as growth dictates. BUNKERS Will be maintained daily. OTHER INFO DO YOUR BIT – Help minimise the wear and tear by avoiding taking your trolleys over the blue lines and between the greens and the bunkers! PLEASE – REPAIR ALL PITCH MARKS. ‘A pitch mark left unrepaired for 10 minutes or longer takes 15 days to recover, whereas a pitch mark repaired within 5 minutes’ recovers completely within 24 hours.’ Follow us on twitter and facebook @trethornegolfclub & boringdonpark for operations carried out on the course! CAPTAINS REPORT County participation was within the Senior Team Championship, which I will leave with Steve to report on; however, I would add that Trethorne being active in such events, can only be a good thing. Reports back from Committee day have been overwhelming in support. With 112 players (28 teams), the day I believe ran fairly smoothly, with minor issues being raised: Food and drinks tickets could have been presented better “Jims hamper”, could have been better managed by driving the length of a rope/ string? One of the members who were not taking part in the day, walked onto the 10th and continued to play in the middle of the event. I believe Chris has already addressed this issue Heather will, I am sure in due course give us the financial report, but all in all, I think we should be happy; endorsed by the County Secretary and his playing partner. Impressed all round with the event, course and hospitality. Last week (July) seen wins from Gary Marquand and Peter Hodgins on the Monday and a third place from Geoff Saunders and Kate Allen seen the start of the Lanhydrock open week begin. The Friday saw further success from a second placement from Gary Marquand, Andrew Wilson and Andrew Tapper and fourth place from myself, Les Jewell, Darrel Shovell and Ian Murray. Mens report: Another busy month has passed by the with the Mens section active in home competition events. Winners of the various competitions are shown below. August looks set to be yet another busy period, with both the Ford & Truscott trophies along with a return match at Killiow, weekend qualifiers and the commencement of the various quarter finals of the knockouts filling out the other areas LADY CAPTAINS REPORT My Appologies for non-attendance As usual working on reception Our match against the Point at Polzeath couldn’t be arranged by them this year as they are too busy, we were due to play them away on the10th July 2-16. I am waiting for confirmation for a match against them next year. We had our Ladies Club Championship on the 17th July which was won by Lydia Saunders with a gross of 90 & Judith Sweet with a net of 74.
