TRETHORNE GOLF CLUB COMMITTEE MEETING   Minutes of Committee Meeting held on Monday 9th January 2017   PRESENT S Saunders, J Austin, H Gushlow .J Vidler, L Jewell, C Edmonds, D Shovell, D Gibbard, G Marquand, J Grainger, G Saunders APOLOGIES D Shovell, C Eyles, C Brewer   Meeting Started at 1900hrs. Acceptance Minutes of Committee Meeting 5th December 2016 Matters arising. See AOB   COURSE REPORT   Greens – cut once or twice a week during December at 5.5 mm, weather permitting. We have sprayed the greens with a dew dispersant over Xmas to keep the greens as dry and disease free as possible. Last week they had an application of calcium and magnesium as well. Not much applied to the greens this month as the lawn sand has kept colour and growth going steadily. Tees/ surrounds/approaches- cut when necessary usually once a week as the grass is still growing. Tees are being rotated as normal. Fairways/rough- being cut as needed, some of the faster growing ones once a week, some less often. Some of the weaker growing fairways were fed just before Xmas with a soluble feed to maintain colour and growth. Rough is cut when needed. Other work- the trees between 9 and 10 were thinned out. The remains of which are starting to be cleared by fire in which we were helped with the first members day. This was a success and we would like to thank everyone involved.  The hedge we cleared between 14 and 15 last winter was topped to keep it neat. Believe it or not the mole hills have been collected a few times but they are very industrious little fellows.  The holes are changed once a week and the putting green hole cups have been cleaned.  The bunkers had a thorough edge and rake at the start of December. Other news-  December rainfall only 40mm which was the driest month of the year and total rainfall for the year 1350mm which is an average year for us. Buggies are being allowed when possible and were banned for 5 days in the last month.   CAPTAINS REPORT  The winter months have been kind to us, with what seems to have generally dry weather, although on occasions the rain or frost has shone its head to cause “stop play”. December seen four competitions: Turkey Trot won by Jason Howes, Simon Price, Kevin Woolley Christmas surprise, Ian Murray Cross Country, James Carswell, Les Jewell and Darrel Shovell and New Year’s Eve/Day nine hole events, Lee Bowers, Steve Vickers All events seen a positive turnout except for the New Year’s Day event, although the weather may have something to have done with this. However overall, participation was high. Whilst the winter league continues to run through to the end of March, February will start to see the preseason competitions kick off with the Valentines trophy and “meal for four” event, a new competition for the men’s section (format yet to be agreed), held on the same day. With Chris Hutt, the Bude Captain, now interested in arranging a game against the Club, I am delighted that the competitions committee will now be running no less than 13 inter club games this year. With structure in place, it is hoped that such fixtures will be renewed annually. With the Mixed Captains looking to act on a new initiative towards competitive golf through a program that shows a presence at other Clubs, I am confident the Club is steering in the right direction… Simon Schofield has been asked to: Provide a draft for the 2017 fixture list of competitions, which will be approved at the next February meeting by the competitions committee Carry out the 2015 and 2016 naming to the boards. Detail has already been issued from current information held I would like to wish Paragon every success in their NEW corporate structure; and thank them (Jon, Justin) for continued support and un ended commitment towards the ever-improving playing conditions we are experience here at Trethorne. With the obvious hard work, Dom and the two Nicks put in, I hope our appreciation is a form of encouragement. Finally, my personal thanks to Steve Vickers, Joe Lavender, and Ian Forbes for taking part in the first event where the members give a little back to the greenkeepers in way of help. With additional names, already available, I look forward to being given the next date in February.     LADY CAPTAINS REPORT No much to report since the last meeting We played 9 hole Secret Santa on the 27th December with only 5 ladies taking part. With the remit that the gift had to be purchased from a Charity shop this year maximum £5 – I believe it was successful – followed by mince pies supplied by Jon & mulled wine supplied by the ladies captain. This was won by Lydia with 18 points & Julie Brooks & Heather Eyles on 17 each. Nothing planned for January next comp the ladies will be involved will be the valentines trot (mixed match).      MIXED REPORT   Since the last meeting in December 2016, there has been no Mixed competitions per say; with involvement throughout the Club being within those events mentioned in the Captains report. In addition to the current fixtures, preliminary discussions with the Captain and competition Committee members, it has been suggested that rather than having to arrange inter club games, monthly Open Mixed events could be considered. The following have been selected as local to the Club. As the Mixed and Ladies section run closely together, it will be interesting to see the level of interest and support.   AOB   Jon Grainger said he was disappointed regarding mixed matches, as in the past they had always supported the club and hoped it would continue, he feels strongly regarding this and the responsibility should rest with the mixed captain to arrange these matches. He hoped that at least 3 matches should be arranged
