[Men's Golf] Men's Golf Evangels Secure Best-Ever Finish at SAC Tournament
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian University Men's Golf Evangels recorded their best finish in school history at the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament, coming in fourth place as the tourney concluded yesterday (Apr. 25) at the Gaillardia Country Club in OKC.
The only three teams that were ahead of the Evangels were tourney champion and No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University (287-298-289-874), No. 5-ranked Wayland Baptist University (290-299-301-890) and No. 2-ranked Texas Wesleyan University (298-304-291-893).
The Evangels were in sixth place after the first round, but improved their score in each of the following two rounds.
After shooting a 328 to begin the tournament, the Evangels came back with a 322 in the second round before improving their total by 12 strokes in the final round to shoot 310 and move into the fourth spot.
Caleb Conn produced the best finish for MACU, coming in 15th overall (78-79-78-235). Conn was followed closely by Tyler Price, who was 16th (84-77-75-236).
Wilson Prada wound up tied for tied for 22nd overall (85-83-78-246), while Nathan Chadd came in tied for 24th (86-83-79-248).
David Wilson finished 28th overall (81-86-86-253) for the Evangels.
"This team made school history at the extremely challenging Gaillardia Country Club Golf Course," MACU Men's Golf Head Coach Allen Dukes said.
"It was very windy all three rounds and we started off with a rough first round. In the final round we played much better and recorded four scores in the seventies."
"I am proud of this bunch and they have been a joy to coach on a daily basis. They will be difficult to replace as four of our top five are seniors."
