[Men's Golf] ONU's Lambert goes low at Millikin Weist Foundation Classic
DECATUR, Ill. —In its last prep before the CCAC Championships, the Olivet Nazarene University men's golf played against one of the toughest fields they had all season. They competed at the Millikin University (Ill.) Weist Foundation Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Tigers finished tied for seventh out of 17 teams, despite shooting their best score of the spring. Luke Lambert (SR/Crown Point, Ind.) steeped up and led the way shooting a 147 (+3) to finish tied for sixth overall.
A total of 96 golfers played in the 36-hole, two-day event at the par-72, 6891-yard course, Red Tail Run Golf Course. ONU finished seventh overall with a team score of 614 (301-313, +38). Carthage College (Wis.) won the event shooting a 588 (290-298, +12). Parkland College (Ill.) came in second with a score of 592 (288-304, +16), and Millikin University (Ill.) came in third with a 596 (294-302, +20).
Olivet Nazarene had two golfers in the top 10, but Luke Lambert led the Tigers this weekend. Lambert shot a two-day score of 147 (74-73, +3), his best of the season and moved from 16th all the way to tied for sixth. Matt Winkelmann (SO/Wheaton, Ill.) was right behind him with a score of 149 (71-78, +5), to finish tied for 10th. Cole Evenson (SR/Princeton, Ill.) came in tied for 58th with a 160 (80-80, +16). Jake Butterfield (FR/Horton, Mich.) shot a 162 (80-82, +18) to finish tied for 66th and Jordan Spay (SR/Bettendorf, Iowa) finished tied for 80th with a two-day score of 169 (76-93, +25).
The Tigers will compete in the CCAC Championships next Monday and Tuesday, April 24-25 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
