Golf Legend Nick Faldo Wants PGA Tour to Take Action Against Tiger Woods

Golf legend Nick Faldo thinks it's time Tiger Woods faced the music.

The six-time major champion was furious with a "predictably weak" message from the PGA Tour after Woods announced his decision to step away from the game of golf after yet another car accident.

"Tiger Woods is a legend of our sport whose impact extends far beyond his achievements on the course," the PGA Tour's statement read. "But above all else, Tiger is a person, and our focus is on his health and well-being. Tiger continues to have our full support as he takes this important step."

Nick Faldo Calls on PGA Tour to Take Action

In speaking to The Times, Faldo pleaded with the PGA Tour to force Woods to face accountability for his actions.

“This is a serious thing he’s done, you know. The PGA Tour statement was so predictably weak, how they showed that the Tour will look after him, as they always have done, and then you’ve got Jack [Nicklaus] saying it’s tarnished the entire sport. You’ve got your opposites but there has to be some accountability,” Faldo said

“The bottom line is I really think that something should be done a little bit more serious than waving him off to a tropical island and saying ‘Welcome back’ in three or four months,” he added.

Woods Will Remain PGA Tour Future Competition Committee Chairman

The Sports Business Journal previously reported the PGA Tour plans to welcome Woods back as the chairman of the Future Competition Committee when he's prepared to do so.

"A tour spokesperson said the committee’s work, which includes vast changes to the future PGA Tour schedule, would continue and that it had a virtual meeting today. The spokesperson added that the tour expects Woods to return as chairman of the committee once he’s ready to do so," SBJ reported.

Faldo questioned making Woods a decision-maker in the future of the tour following his most recent accident.

“He’s finished nine tournaments in the last five years, and yet they think that he’s the future on the golf course and the future in the decision making," Faldo said.

"I don’t know what I’d ask the official bodies to decide, but you would have thought in a normal walk of life there is some accountability for doing that, isn’t there? I guess he’s always been a special case, because of who he is and what he’s done, so I suppose he’s avoided that accountability."

Woods won't play in the Masters next week and also removed himself from consideration as captain of the United States Ryder Cup team.
