We had a wonderful array of winners in all categories in Castlecomer Golf Club this weekend. Mark Shortall had the round of a lifetime (for him). A wonderful score of -1 saw him take the honours in the weekend singles, so well done Shorty on an exceptional round of golf.
Niall O Sullivan consolidated his stature as one of the most consistent low handicap golfers in the club with 34 points to earn him the gross prize. Barry Doyle won category 1 and a stalwart of inter-club teams, Andy Cleere won category 2 with a magnificent score of 38 and the smiling dentist Bernard Mullen was 2nd in the same category with a score of 37 points. Jonah Kelly has swapped the football boots for golf shoes for the time being and emerged victorious in category 3 with 38 points, closely followed by the evergreen Mick Doheny, who rumour has it set the course up to suit his game.
Congratulations to all who featured in the prizes and many thanks to those who just played with a bag on their backs and a dream in their hearts.
Next week has a different slant to the normal golfing set up in Castlecomer. There will be a 3 person scramble on Friday and Saturday and a singles competition on Sunday and Monday. There is also a scramble on Friday and all are welcome to come and savour this fantastic golf course.
