Valle del Este – Sunny Spain Golf and Clinics
Our first day playing at Valle del Este set the tone weather wise for the week as it was sunny, warm and conducive for shorts! We decided on a team event and Tony, Phillip, James and Sue won by a considerable margin. After the game we reviewed some ideas on the excellent practice facilities and honed our games ready for the next day’s challenges. In the pairs event Pat and Heather and newcomers Basil and Trevor carded excellent 40 points, however Richard and Phillip pipped them with 41 points.
On our day off we had a clinic in the morning followed by a long lunch and some sun appreciation.
We enjoyed the next couple of days out and firstly went to the excellent Desert Springs. The course has hosted various events for the European Tour and I recall bringing the Hertfordshire Men’s Team here for some winter training some 25 years ago! Staying on the fairways (which were amazing by the way!) was the key here, as sand and cactus laid in wait for any stray golf balls. A buggy break down didn’t dampen spirits too much and it was a really competitive day with 3 teams within 3 points of each other. Champions for the day were Pat, Jude, Phillip and Liam with 87 points in our 2 from 4 event.
Our second day saw us at the challenging Mundo Agilion course where slopes on the fairways and greens gave us all plenty to think about. Add in some well placed ravines and a liberal amount of water (just the 6 lakes) and understandably scoring wasn’t quite as high. However, Tony, Liam, Pat and Sue broke par for the day and were the Mundo Champions.
Our last day at Valle del Este was certainly the windiest and the closest in terms of scoring with 3 teams on 80 points and one on 78. After countbacks and a brief consultation of the Duckworth Lewis scoring concept, Richard, Liam, Rosemary and Liz triumphed and clearly Richard’s 4 pointer on the last hole proved pivotal.
We finished our week with a fun dinner at the local restaurant Hoyo19. A great week blessed with super weather and great comradery on and off the course.
