Kress autonomous mowers to maintain Volusia County School District sport turf

Volusia County School District in Volusia County, Fla., has become the first in the U.S. to implement autonomous robotic mowers to maintain 100 percent of its high school sports turf. Kress RTKn Mission Mega mowers, implemented at all of Volusia County School District high schools, will help the district maintain healthier and more beautiful turf, allow its grounds crews to focus on more skilled maintenance and beautification tasks and enable students to avoid harmful emissions from gas mowers.

Used by sports turf and golf superintendents and more, Kress RTKn autonomous mowers are available at Kress dealer locations.

Using Kress’ proprietary RTK network, Kress Mission Mega autonomous mowers require no boundary wire and maintain centimeter-level mowing accuracy, according to the company. Kress Mission autonomous mowers, with zero operational emissions and near-silent cutting, can cross driveways, walkways and paths to mow multiple zones and continually learn the most efficient routes. All models are equipped with obstacle avoidance and advanced mobile functionality, giving maintenance crews full control over cutting height, scheduling, software upgrades, theft protection and weather-related working schedules.

Studies show that consistent mowing like that with autonomous mowers encourage stronger root density, resulting in thicker grass. With millimeter clippings that return nutrients back to the soil, turf mowed with autonomous mowers is typically more resilient, requiring less fertilization and watering — especially critical with warm-weather varieties and in hot climates like Florida.
