Frost stays cool, wins Topeka Golf Association Stroke Play tournament

TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Topeka Golf Association wrapped up its City Stroke Play tournament on Monday at the Topeka Country Club.

It was a tight race between two former Ichabods, Phil Frost and Jeremiah Nelson.

The two frontrunners weren't the only golfers representing Washburn, and Phil Frost was happy to see his alma mater so well represented.

"It's fun to see the local kids playing well, seeing the Ichabods come up and get their certificates," Frost said.

He won the City Match Play tournament a few weeks ago at Cypress Ridge Golf Course. Frost carried that momentum into today's third and final round, narrowly defeating Nelson 213 to 214.

Frost was happy to see the hard work he's put in practice paying off.

"Going into this tournament, my goal was to be able to play in the last group on Monday, the last round of the tournament, and I was able to accomplish that," Frost said. "It just shows that all the hard work that I've been putting in is coming to fruition and I'm happy to see that.

Frost was down two to Nelson coming into the final round, but a 117-yard shot jumped him up one.

"We just battled the rest of the way," Frost said. "Our whole group struggled coming in, but I was just able to be on top at the end."

The Topeka Golf Association's next event is the City Junior Championship July 21 and 22.
