At Camp ECCO, Men’s Golf Shoes Are Put to the Test
ECCO & SHARP
It was 15 years ago that legendary golfer Fred Couples made waves during his storied 2010 Masters Tournament run wearing a pair of spikeless shoes made by Danish brand ECCO. For most fans, it was the first sighting of golf shoes without prominent spikes, and certainly the most prominent moment for such a reveal: a beloved golf figure, embarking on a storybook run at one of the most esteemed tournaments in sports. It was, without a doubt, a seminal shift for the sport. It seems fitting, then, that just a short drive northwest from Augusta — amongst the stunning north Georgia mountains — ECCO began a new chapter of innovation with Camp ECCO and the introduction of the new ECCO Biom H5 golf shoe.
Today, Couples’s spikeless shoes have become the norm, with ECCO’s sneaker-like aesthetic common amongst pros and amateurs alike. But Camp ECCO was not about resting on the brand’s laurels, but rather an opportunity for attendees to experience the brand’s future. Attendees put the ECCO Biom H5 to the test during rounds at The Keep, McLemore Resort’s newly unveiled golf course, offering the perfect playground for a shoe made for (and inspired by) the elements.
Drawing its inspiration from the rugged Scottish Highlands, the Biom H5 features ECCO’s new ECCO-TEX waterproof membrane and ECCO performance leather while maintaining the modern sneaker aesthetic that made waves 15 years ago. The result is a golf shoe made to thrive in even the most unforgiving environments — from the rainy roughs to sun-soaked Georgia fairways — a testament to both its durability and connection to the environment.
“With the ECCO Golf Biom H5, we’ve seamlessly blended the rugged inspiration of the Scottish Highlands with advanced Danish technology to create a shoe that redefines performance and durability,” explains Timo Vollrath, head of global marketing at ECCO Golf. “This innovative design not only provides unmatched comfort and stability, but also empowers golfers to tackle any conditions with confidence. We’re proud to introduce a shoe that truly embodies our commitment to pushing the boundaries of golf footwear.”
Although the shoe was designed with a primary focus on performance, the Biom H5 maintains ECCO’s long-time reputation for visually striking gear, offering 10 colourways as well as its BOA Fit System. Throughout the trip, Camp ECCO delivered content creators and journalists the opportunity to put the brand’s latest innovation to the test amongst a backdrop and golf experience worthy of Couples himself.
