Sunset Country Club Wins Pro-3 Junior
Sunset Country Pro Ryan Johnson and his team of three juniors sizzled under sunny, humid conditions to go 9-under par on their final six holes to claim the St. Louis District Golf Association’s (STLDGA) Pro-3 Junior Championship at Sunset Country Club in St. Louis on Wednesday, June 25. Johnson combined with Tej Litzinger, Luke Butler and Braden Wright to finish a cool 11-under 133 for 18 holes, overcoming the field of 15 teams on one of the hottest days of the season.
The tournament features a club pro playing with three juniors, taking the two best balls among the four players.
Johnson’s team dominated on the front nine by posting two birdies at Holes three, seven, eight and nine, finishing 7-under par for the nine holes. Johnson was particularly efficient on the front nine with five birdies, while Butler and Wright contributed three birdies apiece.
Dalhousie Golf Club Pro Conner Thrower, Jimmy Williams, Kaden Shaw and Madison Thrower tied for second at 9-under with Algonquin Golf Club Pro Chris Ferris, Bobby Delhougne, Eddie Rothery and Rhoads Hall. Thrower’s team made its run on the back nine by carding two birdies on Holes 10 and 16 to go 6-under. Ferris’ team matched that 6-under on the back nine, highlighted by Hall’s eagle on the par-5 No. 10. However, neither group could keep pace with the leaders.
